The Yoruba United Community in Abia State has firmly stated that there is no conflict between the Yoruba and Igbo people, condemning the divisive “IgboMustGo” slogan that trended during the recent #Hunger protest in Lagos.
Speaking after his re-election for a second term as President General of the Yoruba United Community in Abia, Okikiade Yusuf emphasized the peaceful relationship between the two ethnic groups in the state. He addressed the issue during an event held on Saturday in Umuahia, saying, “We have no crisis in Abia. The so-called conflict between the Yoruba and Igbo is purely political and unnecessary. It needs to be stopped. Yoruba and Igbo are one. Here in Abia, there’s no problem, and the people are loving and welcoming.”
Yusuf went on to stress the deep connection between the Yoruba community and the state, saying, “Abia is our first home, and Yoruba is our second. We live here, do business here, and many of us have married from this land. We are committed to being law-abiding citizens and contributing to the peace and development of the communities we live in.”

He expressed satisfaction with the harmony the community has enjoyed over the years and credited his re-election to his efforts in uniting the Yoruba people across several local government areas in the state.
The Deputy President of the community, Adeyemi Sunday, who has lived in Abia for over 30 years, echoed Yusuf’s sentiments. He affirmed that the Yoruba community has no issues with the Igbo, calling on southern Nigeria to remain united for the benefit of all.
