Nollywood veteran actress Patience Ozokwor, widely known as Mama G, has addressed the frequent deaths among Nollywood actors, attributing it to their negligence and lack of proper health care.
In an interview in Lagos, Ozokwor shared her concerns, reflecting on the emotional impact of the recent passing of comedian John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu. She tearfully recalled the moment at his funeral in Enugu state when she realized he was truly gone.
Ozokwor emphasized that many actors, engrossed in their work, neglect their health. “When you are enjoying what you do, you often forget to take care of your health. It’s something that eventually takes a toll on your body,” she said. She criticized the tendency of some actors to self-medicate rather than seek professional medical advice, labeling this as carelessness.
She urged her colleagues to prioritize regular health check-ups and make healthier lifestyle choices. “We try to bring joy to others but forget to take care of ourselves,” she added.
Ozokwor, now an evangelist, also spoke about her spiritual journey. She recounted her transformative encounter with God in 2016, which led her to dedicate her life to evangelism. She described how a divine calling prompted her to spend 30 days in solitude and prayer, a period that changed her life profoundly. This encounter has since opened doors for her to share her testimony widely, further solidifying her faith and commitment to her new role.
