Wales FA Dismisses Rob Page Following Euro 2024 Qualification Shortfall

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has officially parted ways with Rob Page, who has been serving as the head coach of the men’s national team.

Rob Page initially took the reins as interim manager in November 2020 and was confirmed as the permanent head coach in September 2022. During his tenure, he guided the team to notable achievements, including their participation in the UEFA EURO 2020 finals and leading Wales to their first FIFA World Cup since 1958.

Dave Adams, Chief Football Officer, commended Page’s contributions, highlighting the promotion to League A in the UEFA Nations League and the successful integration of 18 pathway players into the senior squad.

FAW CEO Noel Mooney and President Steve Williams also expressed their appreciation for Page’s efforts and his significant impact on Welsh football, contributing to memorable moments for the national team.

As the FAW looks forward, it remains committed to upholding its value of ‘Excellence’ in Welsh football. The announcement of Page’s dismissal was made public on Friday through a statement available on FAW’s official website and social media channels.

Before becoming the head coach of the men’s national team, Page served as the U21 Head Coach from 2017. During this period, he played a crucial role in developing key players such as Dan James, Harry Wilson, and Joe Rodon, among others.

Reflecting on Page’s tenure, Adams remarked, “I would like to thank Rob for his dedication to the Association over the past seven years. His leadership brought us to the Round of 16 at EURO 2020 and saw us qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The integration of 18 pathway players into the senior squad during his period is a testament to his commitment.”

Noel Mooney added, “On behalf of the entire FAW, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to Rob for his unwavering commitment. Under his leadership, our men’s team reached significant milestones, including our first World Cup in 64 years.”

Steve Williams echoed these sentiments, stating, “I am incredibly grateful for Rob’s contributions as the head coach. His passion for Wales was evident in his community engagements and his pride in taking the World Cup squad announcement to his hometown of Tylorstown.”

The decision comes in the wake of Wales failing to secure a spot in the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament, marking a turning point for the national team as they aim for future successes.
