Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has been released from detention after spending over two weeks behind bars. Otse was initially arrested and charged with cyberstalking and bullying, with his arraignment occurring on May 22, 2024.
Originally slated for release one week post-arraignment, Otse’s freedom was delayed as the police requested additional time to respond to his bail application. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, pushed for bail while the prosecution sought prison custody. Eventually, the court granted the prosecution’s request for remand in police custody.
Following his release, a video surfaced showing VeryDarkMan reuniting with his supporters. This development comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings, with Otse facing five counts of cyberstalking involving the Nigeria police and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dike.
