Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma commenced his duties as the newly designated Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the South East, by urging the zone to ‘help Nigeria for Nigeria to assist her’. He emphasised that to be “a President from the South East, other zones must know and trust you.” Uzodimma, speaking at the APC’s SE Zonal meeting in Owerri, explained that, “What the SE requires is the support of the larger zones, and for stakeholders to achieve that, they must develop the spirit of togetherness, forgive each other, and ensure the future of our children and future generations.” This demands us to be our brother’s keeper.
The Imo governor, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, noted that there was only one way for the SE to participate in what is going on at the Centre, and that was for the zone to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his initiatives. “In other words, there is every reason to support President Ahmed Tinubu and the APC. Nigeria is a partisan democracy, therefore to win an election and be in power, you must utilise a political party, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the party the SE requires right now,” he stated.

Uzodimma acknowledged that the SE was still suffering from the repercussions of the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War, but noted that President Tinubu and the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, understood the precarious situation of the South East as a marginalised zone and were working with stakeholders to de-marginalize it. Uzodimma asked APC supporters in the five Southeast States to “come together to serve the people of the zone and avoid the pull him down syndrome which is common among politicians.”
He was pleased with the turnout of party members at the meeting, stating that it “shows new attitude and incremental awareness on the political demands of the zone.” Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, whose message was presented by Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obilar, highlighted the need for the APC to speak with one voice, be focused, and work as a team to accomplish de-marginalisation. The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who was also there, reminded the gathering that President Tinubu had done well with his initiatives based on available data and figures.
Emma Enukwu, Deputy National Chairman South, who represented the APC’s National Chairman, Ganduje, stated that the national chairman has directed e-registration of APC members across all states. Members of the National Assembly, represented by Senator Osita Izunaso, and the Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, thanked Uzodinma for his leadership role in the zone.
