The Ishieke Police Division, located in the Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State, was assaulted by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday night. In the ensuing confrontation, police forces killed five attackers.
The attack began around 9:30 PM with heavy gunfire, causing panic among local residents who quickly sought shelter. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen arrived at the station in two cars, shooting indiscriminately into the air.
Tony Nwori, a local resident, stated, “The gunmen engaged in a fierce gun battle with the police officers on duty for over 30 minutes. It wasn’t until additional security forces arrived that the situation was brought under control.”
Another source confirmed that the incident drew the attention of other security operatives, including the Army, who arrived in significant numbers to subdue the attackers. “They continued shooting while moving towards the Odomoke Ishieke market along Nwiboko Obodo road,” the source added.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the police have been unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, was unreachable, and he has not responded to text messages at the time of this report.
A video circulating on social media shows several of the suspected attackers lying dead at the scene. This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for increased vigilance and proactive measures to protect communities.
