The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has taken action to assist the State of Abia in maintaining economic growth by introducing technological advancements to the Aba shoe manufacturing industry.
This would be done to make sure that final goods are exported, which would give Aba-made goods the credit they merit and provide a source of foreign exchange profits.
During a meeting with Priscilla Otti, the wife of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and her team during the 68th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, USA, Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie, assistant secretary general of the United Nations (UN), disclosed this.

Eziakonwa-Onochie, who also serves as the director of the UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Africa and assistant administrator, stated that the UNDP is eager to provide more assistance in order to help the Abia State government carry out its empowerment objectives.
She expressed her happiness and excitement about Otti’s rapid progress toward the development of the State, pointing out that she had heard excellent things about Otti from the UNDP meeting that was held in Rwanda last year, which the governor had attended.
In response, First Lady Otti expressed gratitude to the UN Assistant Secretary General for her kind remarks regarding the Abia State government and her consideration for supporting initiatives that would expedite the State’s development. She also gave her word that her husband’s ambitious plans and programs for the State are enormous and will be carried out to the fullest extent possible in accordance with his leadership vision and campaign promises.
Two members of the Abia First Lady’s staff, Ifeoma Thomas, the governor’s special assistant on vulnerable groups and poverty alleviation, and Chinwe Onyeukwu, the special assistant on women affairs, accompanied her to the meeting.
