Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that two officers were shot while thwarting an attempted abduction of a foreign VIP by suspected secessionist gunmen in Ogbunka village, Orumba South Local Government Area, on Sunday morning.
In a statement released on Monday by the Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police disclosed that the operatives engaged the armed assailants in a fierce gun battle, ultimately saving the targeted foreigner from the clutches of the kidnappers. Unfortunately, two police officers were hit during the exchange, but they managed to secure the foreign VIP’s safety. The injured officers are currently in stable condition and receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital within the state.
Ikenga further mentioned that operations are still ongoing in the region to locate and apprehend the armed men responsible for the attack. The bravery of the police officers in protecting the foreign national under such life-threatening circumstances has been applauded, highlighting their commitment to security in Anambra State.

In a related incident, police operatives responded to a distress call regarding a suspected cult clash in Umuka, Nawfia. The operatives found four young men, later identified as Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta, Nnatuanya Junior (aka Starboy), Aniemena (aka Osama), and Ahmed Auwal, all lying lifeless with gunshot wounds. The victims, believed to be involved in nefarious activities, were discovered in a pool of blood, having succumbed to their injuries. Their bodies have been deposited in a morgue, and investigations into the incident are underway.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that joint patrols with the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) have been intensified in Nawfia to prevent further cult-related violence in the area.
In another tragic development, Anambra State Police have launched an investigation into the murder of a 17-year-old girl, identified as Chinasa Adigwe from Umueje village. Her body was found in a bush in Omasi village, with certain body parts missing, indicating a suspected ritual killing. The shocking discovery was made on October 6th, and her remains have been taken to a morgue. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and assured the community that the police will do everything possible to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.
