The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has made a pressing plea to President Bola Tinubu, urging the immediate importation of food items from global sources within a two-week timeframe. This call comes in response to the prevailing economic hardships experienced nationwide.
Furthermore, the TUC has pointed fingers at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, holding them accountable for the escalating cost of living. They argue that the removal of subsidies on petroleum products and electricity tariffs, advised by these entities, has exacerbated the challenges faced by citizens.
In a notable departure, the TUC has distanced itself from the proposed nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). President of TUC, Comrade Festus Osofo, emphasized that the organization would not engage in any activity it had not actively endorsed.

During a recent press briefing in Abuja, Comrade Osofo outlined the TUC’s stance, highlighting the need for consensus before collective action. He reiterated that the TUC’s absence from the protest underscored the lack of prior agreement and participation.
In its forthcoming recommendations to the federal government, the TUC aims to address the immediate concerns of citizens, prioritizing solutions to alleviate the current economic strain. Comrade Osofo affirmed that the TUC remains committed to advocating for the welfare of workers and the populace at large.
