Former President Donald Trump has accused current President Joe Biden of siding with the Palestinian militant group Hamas during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza. Trump’s remarks come as the Biden administration faces increasing pressure to limit arms shipments to Israel.
The conflict began with Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7th, which resulted in over 1,170 deaths, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally of Israeli official figures. In response, Israel launched a military offensive that has killed more than 3,900 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry.
Biden warned on Wednesday that the U.S. could halt weapons supplies to Israel if it pushes ahead with a ground offensive in Rafah, a move that Trump has described as “disgraceful.” The former president took to his Truth Social network to criticize Biden, stating that “Crooked Joe is taking the side of these terrorists, just like he has sided with the Radical Mobs taking over our college campuses.”

The Biden administration has faced increasing pressure from the left wing of the Democratic Party to limit arms shipments to Israel. Last week, the administration paused the delivery of 1,800 2,000-pound bombs and 1,700 500-pound bombs, and has previously taken smaller steps to show displeasure with Israel, including imposing sanctions on extremist settlers and allowing a UN Security Council resolution that supported a ceasefire.
Trump’s comments come as he prepares to challenge Biden in the November 2024 presidential election. The former president has long been a staunch supporter of Israel and has accused Biden of “abandoning” the country.
