Tributes Pour in as Former Arsenal Star Kevin Campbell Passes Away at 54

 

The football world is in mourning following the death of Kevin Campbell, the former Arsenal and Everton striker, who passed away at the age of 54. Known for his impactful career and vibrant personality, Campbell’s loss has resonated deeply within the football community.

 

Kevin Campbell began his professional journey with Arsenal in 1988, following an impressive junior scoring record. Over the course of his career with the Gunners, Campbell scored 59 goals in 224 appearances, contributing to the team’s victories in the 1990-91 league title, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

 

Campbell’s career spanned several clubs, including Nottingham Forest, where he played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League. He also had a season with Turkish side Trabzonspor before joining Everton in 1999. Everton also paid tribute, highlighting his pivotal role in their history: “Not just a true Goodison Park hero and icon of the English game, but an incredible person as well – as anyone who ever met him will know. RIP, Super Kev.”

The impact of Campbell’s passing has been felt across the football world. The official England X account posted, “We are devastated to learn that Kevin Campbell has passed away aged 54. Kevin won four caps for our under-21s and represented our B team in the early 1990s. Our thoughts are with Kevin’s family, friends and loved ones.”

 

Nottingham Forest also shared their condolences: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kevin Campbell. Kevin spent three seasons at #NFFC and was part of the side which earned promotion from the First Division as champions in 1998.”

 

The Premier League issued a statement: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kevin Campbell, the former Arsenal, Nott’m Forest, Everton and West Brom striker. Our thoughts and condolences are with Kevin’s family, friends, and those associated with the clubs he played for.”

 

Campbell’s former teammates and fellow football icons have shared heartfelt messages. Tony Adams, Campbell’s former Arsenal teammate and captain, said, “Super Kev: a goal machine, a giant of a man, with an even bigger heart. An intensely private and a truly wonderful human being. I’m devastated for his loved ones and all of us. Love you Super Kev, Skipper.”

 

Ian Wright, another Arsenal legend, posted on Facebook, “Till we meet again my friend. I love you so much.”

 

Shaun Wright-Phillips, former England winger, remarked, “Really gutted to hear the sad news of Kevin Campbell passing. A fantastic goalscorer, but more importantly an even better human. What a gentleman. Thinking of Kevin’s friends and family today, you will be missed Kev. RIP.”
