Two Malaysian military helicopters tragically collided during a routine training session, resulting in the loss of all 10 crew members on board, as confirmed by the country’s rescue agency.
The incident occurred during flight training, with footage capturing the moment of collision during a flypast rehearsal at the Lumut naval stadium. One helicopter clipped the rear rotor of another, sending both into a tailspin and eventual crash.
The helicopters involved were identified as a Eurocopter AS555SN Fennec and an AgustaWestland AW139, with the wreckage showing extensive damage at the naval base stadium track and swimming pool area.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assured an immediate investigation by the Ministry of Defense to determine the cause of the crash.
While helicopter incidents are not uncommon in Malaysia, this tragedy underscores the risks faced by military personnel during training exercises.
