In a devastating incident in Owerri, Imo State, a trailer lost control and plowed into three minibusses, resulting in the feared death of seven individuals. The chaos unfolded at the Imo State University junction around 7 pm on Saturday evening.
Eyewitnesses reported that the heavy-duty truck, recklessly driving against traffic, collided with the minibusses, each carrying nine passengers along with their drivers. The close proximity of the minibusses led to consecutive impacts, exacerbating the severity of the collision.

While some of the injured were swiftly transported to the Federal University of Technology Hospital Owerri for urgent medical attention, seven individuals tragically lost their lives, their bodies now resting in the morgue.
Emeka, an eyewitness, recounted the harrowing sequence of events, highlighting the rapid succession of collisions that ensued due to the buses’ proximity.
The aftermath of the accident triggered a frantic search for missing loved ones, with a crowd converging on FUTHO in search of information and solace. Meanwhile, the Okigwe Road succumbed to gridlock as onlookers and emergency responders swarmed the accident site, further complicating the already chaotic situation.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the police spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, proved futile as his contact remained unreachable at the time of reporting.
