The political economics of land, not the Eastern Security Network or the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is the primary cause of violence in Anambra State, according to the Truth, Peace, and Justice Commission of Anambra, led by Professor Chidi Odinkalu.
This was said by Odinkalu on Wednesday at Government House when he gave Governor Charles Soludo the commission’s findings.
He maintained that Anambra is losing land to ecological pressure, leadership instability, and lawlessness, while Lagos is acquiring land.
According to him, the Commission conducted surveys in 66 communities around the state, recording incidents involving traditional leaders, security personnel, Presidents-General (PGs), and members of the community who vanished and are still unaccounted for.
Odinkalu stressed the need of developing a 25-year security plan to restructure community government, create an agency for victim protection, and hold perpetrators of violence accountable. He also stressed the need to stop using the term “unknown gunmen,” particularly by the media.
Amb. Bianca Ojukwu, the Secretary of the Commission, accompanied Odinkalu, and representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) also attended the occasion.
Governor Soludo praised the members and the chairman of the Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, for their dedication and the “historic” nature of the report, while accepting the report that his government had established to look into the immediate and remote causes of insecurity in the state and, by extension, the South East region.
He pointed out that the study might be used as a basis for a national security strategy.
Concerning the effect that crime and violence have on youth, Soludo said that it is a waste for them to die when their camps are overrun.

Odinkalu stated this on Wednesday when he submitted the report of the commission to Governor Charles Soludo at Government House.
He argued that while Lagos is gaining land, Anambra is losing land due to ecological pressure, crises in leadership, and impunity.
He said that the Commission surveyed 66 communities in the state, documenting cases of traditional rulers, security agents, Presidents-General (PGs), and community members who have disappeared and remain missing.
Odinkalu emphasized the need to end the use of the term “unknown gunmen,” especially by the media, and develop a 25-year security strategy to reform community governance and establish an agency for the protection of victims and accountability for violence.

While receiving the report established by his government to investigate the remote and immediate causes of insecurity in the state and by extension, South East region, Governor Soludo commended the members and the Commission’s chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, for his dedication and the “historic” nature of the report.
He noted that the report has potential to serve as a national framework for addressing security challenges.
Soludo expressed concern about the impact of crime and violence on young people, calling their deaths a waste when their camps are invaded.

He pledged swift action based on the Commission’s recommendations, outlining plans to dissolve his cabinet into sub-committes in analyzing and implementing the recommendations.
In order to address the cross-border nature of criminal activities, the governor stressed the need for cooperation with federal agencies, regional governments, security services, such as the State Vigilante Group, and local communities. He also announced his plans to share the report with national security agencies and collaborate with neighboring states.
He reaffirmed his dedication to bringing about long-lasting peace in the area and gave residents his word that he would “read every sentence” of the report and see to it that its suggestions are carried out for a safer future.
