President Bola Tinubu has made significant appointments in key environmental agencies, signaling a commitment to bolstering regulatory enforcement and development initiatives. Dr. Innocent Barikor has been appointed as the Director-General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency (NESREA), bringing a wealth of experience as an academic, politician, and former Rivers State House of Assembly member. Concurrently, Ebitimi Amgbare, a retired naval officer and former commissioner in Bayelsa State, assumes the role of Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA).
These appointments come as Tinubu aims to elevate environmental governance and foster sustainable development in the region. Barikor succeeds Prof. Aliyu Jauro, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, while Amgbare takes over from Mark Derefaka, reappointed by Buhari in 2021. Tinubu’s spokesperson emphasized the President’s expectations for the new appointees to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service to the Nigerian people.
With these strategic appointments, Tinubu signals a proactive stance towards addressing environmental challenges and advancing the nation’s developmental agenda.
