Tragedy struck Sensani Village in Gasol Local Government Area of Taraba State as unknown assailants brutally murdered third-class chief, Abdulmutalib Nuhu, in his palace on Thursday evening.
The shocking incident occurred just hours before the scheduled Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival, organized by the Taraba State Government in Ibi Local Government Area.
Notably, Ibi is the hometown of Hamisu Bala, also known as Wandume, a notorious gun runner recently released from prison.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen, arriving on motorcycles, stormed Sensani village around 9 pm, targeting the palace where they fatally shot Chief Nuhu in his residence, located a short distance from the festival venue.
Despite the tragic event, the Taraba State Government has reassured attendees of enhanced security measures throughout the festival.

Law enforcement authorities have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, as confirmed by a senior police officer stationed in Sansani.
While efforts to obtain an official statement from the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP James Lashen, were hindered by his unavailability, investigations into the heinous crime continue.
