Suspected Ritualist Brutally Murders 55-Year-Old Widow in Imo State, Cuts Off Private Parts

Tragedy has struck in Umuediabali Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, South-East Nigeria, as a suspected ritualist brutally murdered a 55-year-old widow, Eucharia Chidi Obasi. The victim’s private parts were also severed in the horrific attack.

The incident happened on Wednesday when the assailant came into the apartment of the widow, popularly known by the locals as ‘Nwanyi Sari Sari’, and no children were around. The woman was living alone when the attacker came, and her private organs were severed by the assailant.

However, the perpetrator met his Waterloo when he went to another apartment to murder another woman and was apprehended. The woman raised an alarm, and neighbors came to her rescue. A mob overpowered the assailant and beat him to death.

The suspected ritualist came in around midnight, abducted her from her apartment, murdered and cut off the breast, private organs, and other parts of the body. The ritualist then went to another apartment to murder another woman but luck ran out of him, and he was caught. The matter, however, was not reported to the security because the perpetrator had already been killed.

Ahiazu Mbaise is a Local Government Area in Imo State, with its headquarters in Afo-oru. The area has 14 towns, including Mpam, Ihitte Afor, Opara-Nadim, and Akabor. Meanwhile, the Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW) has condemned the brutal murder of Eucharia Chidi Obasi by the suspected ritualist and pastor.

According to a statement signed by the executive director Leo Igwe, he explained that the suspect who operated a local church had broken into her house by midnight on September 11, 2024, and then murdered her. “The ritualist cut off the breast, private organs, and other parts of the body. Ms. Obasi’s brutal killing underscores the potency of belief in human and ritual sacrifice among Nigerians.

Millions of Nigerians believe that ritual killing and sacrifice of human body parts could yield money, wealth, and progress. Unfortunately, this is baseless nonsense. Recently, there have been cases of ritual attacks and murder across the country.” AfAW said that Nigerians must understand that ritual money or wealth is a form of superstition and has no basis in reason, science, or reality. “There is no iota of evidence that ritual sacrifice of human or other animals or their parts can yield money, wealth, or progress as popularly believed.

AfAW appeals to all Nigerians to eschew these misconceptions, to desist from these criminal and atrocious acts, abandon superstition and irrationalism, and embrace reason, science, and critical thinking.” SaharaReporters’ efforts to speak with the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, were unsuccessful as he did not take his calls or respond to text messages seeking his comment on the incident.
