Super Eagles earn $2.5 Million for Reaching AFCON Semis

The Super Eagles have not only showcased their football prowess by advancing to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinals but have also secured a noteworthy financial victory, bagging a substantial $2.5 million in prize money from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This impressive sum follows CAF’s decision to boost prize money by forty percent just before the competition commenced.

It’s crucial to note that the bonuses and allowances provided by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) stand separate from this lucrative prize money. As the Super Eagles gear up to face South African Bafana Bafana in the semi-final at the Stade De La Paix in Bouake, the ultimate prize for the AFCON champion awaits, a staggering $7 million, while the runner-up will still claim a commendable $4 million.

This windfall extends throughout the tournament, with quarterfinalists set to receive $1.3 million each and Round of 16 qualifiers securing $800,000 per team. The significance of this financial boost is underscored by the fact that the Super Eagles had previously earned $1.5 million when they clinched their third AFCON title in South Africa back in 2013.

As the excitement builds on the field, the Super Eagles’ financial gains serve as a testament to their remarkable journey in the 2023 AFCON, with eyes set firmly on seizing the championship and the substantial rewards that accompany it.
