The South-East Governors’ Forum has announced their collective determination to advocate for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This decision was made public following their recent meeting in Enugu, where the governors issued a comprehensive communique addressing various regional concerns.
The Forum expressed their heartfelt condolences to the governments and people of Abia, Ebonyi, and Imo States, as well as the entire South-East region, on the passing of His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. Special condolences were also extended to Chief Ogbonnaya Onu’s family.
The Forum welcomed a high-profile delegation led by former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, Chief Emeka Anyaoku GCON, and His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe CFR, Obi of Onitsha. This visit emphasized solidarity and support for the Forum’s initiatives.
The governors reviewed the report from the South-East Security and Economic Summit held in Owerri on September 28, 2023. They agreed to implement crucial aspects of the report, focusing on enhancing security and economic integration within the region.
A resolution was made to visit the President to discuss pressing issues affecting the South-East region. This engagement aims to address critical regional challenges and seek federal support.
The Forum resolved to engage with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. This decision underscores their commitment to addressing concerns within the South-East community.
