Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s strong commitment to the development of the South-East region. Speaking at the 5th edition of the Expanded National Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinic in Enugu State, Shettima expressed the administration’s plans to address the pressing issues of infrastructural deficits and erosion that plague the region.
During his address, Shettima highlighted that President Tinubu’s administration is determined to bridge the infrastructure gap and bring a permanent solution to the devastating erosion affecting communities across states like Anambra, Abia, and Enugu. He noted that discussions would soon be held with the leadership of the national assembly and South-East governors to ensure practical, sustainable solutions are implemented.
“The South-East faces significant challenges—issues of infrastructure and the menace of erosion that threatens the livelihoods of many,” Shettima stated. “We have already set plans in motion. We will work closely with the Speaker, the leadership of the national assembly, and the governors of the region to find long-term solutions to these challenges.”
Shettima also praised the current administration’s contributions to the South-East, stating that “In terms of governance, the South-East has never experienced as much focus and commitment as it has under this administration. We must strengthen this partnership to improve the lives of our people. Investments in infrastructure, education, and economic development are key to transforming the region’s narrative.”

He further emphasized the special place that Enugu State holds in the hearts of both himself and President Tinubu, which is reflected in the recent establishment of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC). Shettima mentioned that the commission’s headquarters would be in Enugu, with the aim of addressing the region’s unique needs and fostering growth.
In addressing the region’s energy needs, Shettima remarked, “Energy is vital for industrial growth. Without reliable power, we cannot discuss industrialization. This is why President Tinubu has appointed Engr. Jennifer Adighije from Abia State as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria, to spearhead efforts to improve electricity access in the South-East.”
Shettima concluded by commending Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his efforts in lifting the state from poverty and creating opportunities for economic growth. As a gesture of support, Shettima announced a grant of N150,000 to support outstanding Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Enugu.
