In a coordinated operation at the river boundary areas of Odagwa in Rivers State and Owaza in Abia State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) recently seized substantial quantities of illegally tapped crude oil. A newly constructed, large wooden boat was reportedly used for this illicit operation, enabling the transportation of crude oil along these river routes.
According to a statement released Tuesday on NSCDC’s official social media, the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS) led the operation, uncovering a sophisticated setup where crude oil was being siphoned directly from a transmission pipeline. The oil was then packaged in cellophane bags, ready for illicit transport to undisclosed locations.
The statement highlighted the CG SIS’s ongoing commitment to combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism, emphasizing the economic and environmental dangers posed by these illegal activities in the region. Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend individuals linked to the operation.
