Enugu State College of Education, Technical (ESCET) dismissed 94 lecturers, and they have appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to be reinstated.
The group made the request in a letter to Mbah that was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Enugu. The letter was signed by Dr. Egbo Doris, Dr. Njideka Frank, and other individuals.
The group wrote in a letter titled “A passionate appeal to reconsider staff disengagement at Enugu State College of Education (Technical) Enugu” that their disengagement would cause their families great suffering if nothing was done.
A seven-person investigative committee was established by Mbah in October 2023 to look into claims of fraud and unethical behavior at the school.
They claim that on October 22, 2021, as responsible and devoted Enugu State natives working at ESCET, they wrote to the governor.
They claimed that Mr. Pat Aneke, the acting registrar of the school, informed them of the upsetting news of their withdrawal from service on February 26.
Aneke told them he was following instructions from the Government Implementation Committee to notify the staff members who would be affected by the disengagement.

While appealing to Mbah for reconsideration and reinstatement, the group said: “Our dedication to the educational growth of the school has been top-notch.
“It is only our set and Alvan Ikoku College of Education Owerri, that were successful in the whole of the South East in the 2023 TETFAIR programme. We believe that the sudden termination of our employment does not accurately reflect our contributions.
“It was only this set, disengaged since the establishment of ESCET, that was able to attract international education grant for further research work to continue improving on the quality of education in Nigeria.
They said that, prior to their disengagement, they had been working for the university as unique, highly intelligent, hybrid academicians on ways to generate Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through various research engagements.
As per the group’s statement, even though staff salaries were paid irregularly, they never wavered in their commitment to the college’s growth and development after starting work there.
