The political turmoil in Rivers State escalates as the local chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) instructs its 27 Assembly members to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The move comes amidst accusations of the governor’s failure to uphold a peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu and his recent declaration of the lawmakers’ seats as vacant.
In response, the state government criticizes the APC’s call for impeachment, labeling it as baseless and lacking moral standing. According to the State’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Joseph Johnson, the 27 lawmakers lack legitimacy to impeach the sitting governor, citing constitutional provisions.
Governor Fubara, on the other hand, remains focused on governance, preparing to commemorate his first anniversary in office with the commissioning of various infrastructure projects across the state. The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, unveils a 20-day program of activities, including the commissioning of several key projects aimed at enhancing development and connectivity within the state.
