Put More Effort in Public Duties than Politics – NLC Replies Tinubu

In a swift response to President Bola Tinubu’s recent criticisms, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has reiterated its commitment to advocating for the welfare of Nigerians while clarifying that it has no intention of vying for political positions.

President Tinubu, during the unveiling of the Lagos Red Rail Line project, expressed dissatisfaction with the NLC’s protest actions, labeling them as premature. He urged labor leaders to refrain from engaging in partisan activities until the 2027 electoral cycle.

However, NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero countered Tinubu’s remarks, emphasizing the pressing issues faced by ordinary Nigerians under current policies. Ajaero highlighted widespread challenges such as hunger, unemployment, insecurity, and rising living costs, urging immediate attention and action from the government.

The NLC reiterated its stance on prioritizing effective governance over political pursuits, urging Tinubu to redirect his focus towards addressing the urgent needs of the populace. Ajaero underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing critical matters such as wage increases, social welfare programs, infrastructure development, and the revitalization of key sectors like education and healthcare.

In essence, the NLC’s response emphasizes the necessity of governmental focus on addressing the tangible hardships experienced by Nigerians, rather than engaging in political rhetoric and future electoral prospects.
