President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed the South East Development Commission (SEDC) Bill into law, marking a significant milestone for the South East region of Nigeria.
The bill, sponsored by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, along with other South East representatives, aims to establish a dedicated commission to oversee the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the region. This initiative comes as a long-awaited response to the enduring impacts of the civil war, which ended 54 years ago.
The SEDC will manage funds allocated from the federation account to address various infrastructural needs, including the repair of roads and housing. Additionally, the commission will tackle ecological and environmental challenges across the Southeast States: Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi.

He further assured the people of the South East, known as Ndi Igbo, that this is just the beginning of more positive attention and development efforts from the federal government.
