President Tinubu Officially Declares April 7 as National Police Day

President Bola Tinubu has officially designated April 7 as National Police Day during the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony held in Abuja. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu emphasized the imperative of overhauling the institutional mindset of police officers to propel the force into a modern, professional, and accountable entity.

 

Since assuming office in 2023, Tinubu’s administration has spearheaded comprehensive reforms aimed at revitalizing the nation’s police force. These reforms prioritize training and capacity-building to empower officers for contemporary policing challenges. Additionally, the Federal Government has endorsed the first week of April as Police Week, culminating in the celebration of National Police Day on April 7th.

In his address, Tinubu highlighted the invaluable role of the police in safeguarding the nation amidst escalating security threats, praising their unwavering commitment and valor. He outlined his administration’s commitment to equipping officers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and technology to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.

 

Acknowledging the sacrifices and resilience of police officers, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his recognition of their dedication. Akpabio emphasized the significance of celebrating the nation’s unsung heroes, underscoring the need for accountability within the police force to pave the way for a new era of policing in the country.
