Following Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun’s orders, the Imo State Police Command arranged a one-day workshop aimed at improving security and combating cultism and other social vices at the state’s educational institutions.
Held yesterday at the Officers’ Mess, Command’s Headquarters, Owerri, the workshop, dubbed “Safer School,” drew participants from all of the state’s schools and included principals, teachers, school functionaries, chairpersons of Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs), and students.

CP Aboki Danjuma, the Police Commissioner, spoke at the workshop with the theme “Achieving a Secure and Conducive Learning Environment for every Child in Imo State.” He explained that the goal of the workshop was to give secondary school community members a chance to learn common safety tips “that will enhance the security of their students and educational facilities.”
He said: “Safe and secure learning environment is one of the most fundamental needs of any school. With excellent educators, cutting edge technology and superior curriculum, without a safe and secure learning environment, the school will be meaningless. Hence, students can only learn, grow, thrive or excel in a safe environment.”
“This workshop is a forum for the school managers in Imo State to establish a synergy with the police to create a safe and secure learning environment in our schools.”
