Police Nab Suspects Behind Murder of Enugu Main Market Chairman

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Mr. Stephen Aniagu, the chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA), Enugu. Mr. Aniagu was tragically shot on September 14, 2024, at Moses Ogbodo Junction near Topland Market in the Amaechi area of Enugu South Local Government Area.

 

The suspects, identified as Chukwudi Aboshi (28), a native of Anike in Ikwo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, and Ani Innocent Ebuka (alias “Excellent”), a driver from Isigwe-Ugbawka in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, were apprehended in Akwuke, Awkunanaw, Enugu South LGA, on November 8 and 9, 2024.

 

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, revealed during a press briefing that the arrests were made possible through “diligent intelligence work and coordinated efforts between Police Detectives of the Anti-Robbery Section (D9) of the State CID and Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad.”

 

The police disclosed that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their direct involvement in the heinous act. They detailed how they attacked and killed Mr. Aniagu, stole his vehicle, and also targeted another driver at the same location. The second victim, who was shot multiple times and had his Toyota Corolla stolen, is currently receiving medical treatment and is in stable condition.
