Police Kill Two Armed Hoodlums In Enugu, Recover AK-47 Rifle

According to the Enugu State police command, two criminals were slain by members of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad during an intelligence-driven operation on a suspected IPOB/ESN criminal hideout in the Akwuke village of the state’s Enugu South Local Government Area. The raid, which happened on Saturday, March 30, at around 2:30 a.m., according to command spokesman Daniel Ndukwe, was carried out in accordance with the proactive Easter crime prevention tactics developed by state Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu.

However, Ndukwe revealed that the renegades encountered opposition from the operatives and opened fire upon seeing them, but the operatives’ overwhelming firepower managed to defeat them.

“Two of the criminal elements were neutralized, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. One AK-47 rifle, one submachine gun (SMG), one stainless pump-action gun (PAG), 27 live and 23 expended rounds of 7.62 mm caliber ammunition were recovered after the raid.

“Also recovered are five live cartridges, and a small blue-colored Gideon New Testament bible used to conceal objects suspected to be charm.

“A preliminary investigation reveals that the breech number of the recovered AK-47 was wiped off and that the criminal elements are responsible for several attacks and carting away of police officers rifles, as the rifle’s magazine bore the Nigeria Police Force colour. Further discreet investigations are ongoing”, he said.

While praising the officers for their operational achievement, the commissioner of police has reiterated the command’s unflinching commitment to purging Enugu State of lawbreakers who have no intention of changing their ways. He did, however, ask for the public’s ongoing help and specifically asked medical facility operators to notify the police of anyone they discovered to have a gunshot wound.
