The Imo State Police Command foiled an attack on the Njaba Divisional Police Station, killing three suspected gunmen during the incident. The attempted assault occurred on Sunday, with police officers thwarting the attackers’ plan and forcing the remaining assailants to flee.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the attackers, who arrived in three SUVs, opened fire on the station but were met with swift retaliation from the police. Officers quickly took defensive positions, resulting in a fierce gun battle that left three of the attackers dead. Several others, wounded by police gunfire, escaped into the surrounding forest.
Among the items recovered at the scene were a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), an AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles, including a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza. These discoveries underscore the intensity of the confrontation between the police and the gunmen.

An ongoing operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, is underway to track down the fleeing suspects. Danjuma has assured the public that those responsible for the attack will be apprehended and brought to justice.
Commending the officers’ bravery, CP Danjuma reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and improving security across Imo State. He emphasized that the police force will continue to intensify efforts to safeguard the lives and properties of residents.
