Peter Obi Urges Review of 2024 Budget Amidst National Crisis

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has called for a comprehensive review of the 2024 budget, citing alarming concerns regarding Nigeria’s worsening security situation, widespread poverty, food insecurity, and deteriorating infrastructure.

In a statement released on Monday through a spokesperson, Obi emphasized the urgency of the situation amidst ongoing controversies surrounding the budget’s allocation of resources.

“Having closely monitored the discussions surrounding the 2024 budget and scrutinized its resource allocation, I respectfully appeal for a thorough review of the entire budget,” Obi stated.

He urged swift action from both the executive and legislative branches, stressing the need for immediate adjustments to allocate resources to critical areas.

“The Executive and Legislative arms must swiftly undertake a review of the budget, given its early stage of implementation, to facilitate urgent reallocation of resources to address pressing needs,” Obi emphasized.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Obi emphasized the necessity of allocating adequate funding to essential sectors such as security, poverty alleviation, food security, and power supply.

“Our nation’s resources must be directed towards critical areas like security, poverty alleviation, addressing food insecurity, and improving power supply, especially considering the challenging times we are facing,” he underscored.

Obi lamented Nigeria’s struggles with hunger, food insecurity, and insufficient power supply, emphasizing the need for immediate action to address these pressing issues.

“We are witnessing alarming levels of hunger and food insecurity, with soaring food prices making it increasingly difficult for most Nigerians to afford basic necessities. Additionally, our power supply remains woefully inadequate, leaving the majority of Nigerians in darkness,” Obi lamented.

He also highlighted the dire situation of education in Nigeria, calling for urgent measures to address the high number of out-of-school children.

“With approximately 20 million out-of-school children, Nigeria faces a critical education crisis. It is imperative that we prioritize education and ensure every child has access to quality education,” Obi urged.

In conclusion, Obi urged government authorities to prioritize the nation’s pressing challenges and reallocate resources accordingly, emphasizing the need for collective sacrifice to address Nigeria’s urgent needs.
