In a recent interview, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka expressed his doubts about the suitability of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, to lead Nigeria.
Soyinka, speaking with Noble Eyisi, voiced concerns about Obi’s leadership capabilities, especially in light of his conduct during the 2023 presidential election, where he finished third behind Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu.
Expressing hope that Obi refrains from running for the presidency in 2027, Soyinka highlighted his disappointment in the conduct encouraged among Obi’s followers.
Soyinka emphasized the role of dishonest political leaders in fostering divisive actions and cautioned that such actions could backfire on them eventually.
Regarding the insults directed at him online, Soyinka attributed them to orchestrated efforts by internet trolls controlled by certain political factions. He maintained his commitment to speaking the truth regardless of attempts to silence him.
Soyinka lamented the promotion of such negative attitudes among the youth by aspiring political leaders, emphasizing the potential repercussions of sowing seeds of discord.
