Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, has voiced strong criticism against the National Assembly’s approval allowing the Federal Government to implement four national budgets concurrently. Obi describes this decision as a chaotic and irresponsible approach to governance.
In a series of tweets on his official X handle, Obi highlighted the significant risks associated with such a move. He emphasized that this action undermines fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability, essential pillars for effective governance.
Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, stated, “Implementing four national budgets concurrently is a blatant disregard for fiscal responsibility and a recipe for chaos, confusion, and catastrophe.” He warned that this could lead to frivolous budget items competing with essential projects, exacerbating the struggles of the Nigerian people.
He further criticized the lawmakers and executive for being out of touch with reality and lacking the competence to manage the nation’s finances effectively. Obi called for an immediate reversal of this decision in favor of a more responsible and transparent budgeting approach.
