The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated discussions with prominent politicians Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This was revealed by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an interview with Channels Television.
Abdullahi acknowledged that the defections of Kwankwaso and Obi from the PDP to other parties significantly contributed to the PDP’s defeat in the 2023 elections. He expressed optimism that the ongoing dialogues with these influential figures, who were once key members of the PDP, could lead to their return before the next election cycle.
“We lost valuable members like Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, whose presence in the party could have changed the outcome of the last elections,” Abdullahi stated. He further emphasized that if these political leaders had stayed with the PDP, the party could have bridged the vote gap and won the 2023 elections.
The PDP is actively seeking to rebuild its strength by engaging with Kwankwaso and Obi, aiming to solidify its base and enhance its chances of success in the upcoming 2027 elections.
