PDP Denies Merger Party Ahead of 2027 Elections

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has categorically denied rumors circulating about its involvement in merger discussions with other political entities in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP clarified its stance following its 587th meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Ologunagba emphasized, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unequivocally asserts that the PDP is not partaking in any merger, fusion, or amalgamation negotiations with any other political party or interest.”

“While the PDP remains inclusive and welcoming to all Nigerians, including former members who have joined other parties, we affirm that our Party remains resilient and capable of securing victories in elections conducted under free, fair, and transparent conditions in our nation.”

Acknowledging the ongoing influx of millions of Nigerians into the PDP through the Party Membership Drive across all Electoral Wards nationwide, the NWC reaffirmed the PDP’s status as the preferred political platform for the majority of Nigerians.

The statement further urged the public, PDP members, democratic institutions, and the international community to dismiss any reports suggesting potential mergers involving the PDP, as such notions do not align with the party’s objectives.

As Nigeria gears up for future electoral processes, the PDP remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the interests of the people and upholding democratic values.
