Otti Asks South-east Governors To Invest In Job Creation

The governor of Abia state, Alex Otti, has emphasized the importance of government employment creation in boosting economic growth in southeast Nigeria.

Otti made these remarks on Friday during a meeting in Abia between the representatives of the Igbo archbishops and bishops and the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers.

He instructed the governors of the Southeast to work swiftly and decisively to create jobs in order to safeguard the local economy.

Otti asserts that luring in investments and reviving companies are crucial to the socioeconomic development of the Southeast.

“We know that investment businesses are rational; if you don’t make your environment conducive to attract investments, they will not come,” he said.

“I know at the minimum, 20 to 25 businesses in Abia before now that just relocated at some point and closed shops.

“There must be investments that the states would have to make without looking at the profit; sometimes, they tell you that government has no business in business, it’s a lie.

“Government has business in business; government must step in at some point and take deliberate decisions to safeguard the economy by creating jobs.

“Government needs to come in and support the private sector to create jobs, if not for anything at all, to ensure that insecurity is reduced to the barest minimum.”

According to Otti, the state administration has created programs to resuscitate important economic centers such as Aba and Umuahia in order to draw in investments and promote growth.

He conveyed his administration’s will to carry out its plan for rebuilding and state transformation.

The governor added that, with the right tools, Aba could improve the entire southeast region.

According to Otti, a steady supply of electricity is a crucial prerequisite for the development of Aba and the surrounding area.

The governor said that the 141 megawatt geometric power plant in Aba, scheduled for commissioning on Monday, would serve Aba and its surroundings with electricity continuously.

Additionally, he added that negotiations had begun between the administration and possible investors regarding the state’s overall 24-hour electricity supply.

Otti pledged to keep interacting with the representatives of Igbo archbishops and bishops as well as the southeast council of traditional rulers.
