In a daring attempt to defraud a businessman of eighteen bags of rice worth ₦400,000, one Nnamani Joseph was apprehended by the Police Operatives of the Ogui Police Division in Enugu State.
The incident, which occurred on February 14, 2024, involved Nnamani approaching the businessman under the guise of buying the rice for charity at a church.
Using a phone call, Nnamani successfully convinced the unsuspecting businessman to supply the rice and even accompanied him to the bank to receive payment through bank transfer. However, while the payment process was underway, Nnamani surreptitiously left the bank, returned to the church, and vanished with the bags of rice.
Upon receiving the report of the fraudulent act, the Police Operatives swiftly initiated an intelligence-driven investigation that led to Nnamani’s arrest on February 20, 2024, at Enene, Enugu. The investigation also resulted in the recovery of eight out of the eighteen bags of rice, which had been re-bagged and sold by Nnamani in the Oye Enene Market.
The Enugu State Police Command has issued a cautionary statement to businessmen and women, advising them to exercise heightened security consciousness and scrutinize transactions thoroughly to avoid falling victim to fraudulent individuals like Nnamani. The statement encourages anyone who may have suffered a similar fraudulent act to approach the mentioned Police Division to provide valuable information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
