In a bid to enhance security and eradicate hideouts for criminals, the Ogun State Government has initiated the demolition of shanties and makeshift structures erected beneath bridges and in public areas.
Led by Farouk Akintunde, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment, the operation began following the expiration of notices issued to traders occupying these spaces.
Akintunde emphasized that these shanties have become havens for criminal activities, posing a threat to public safety and security.
“We issued notices last year, but they disregarded them. With the expiration of the notice, we’re taking action to remove all illegal structures,” Akintunde stated. “The government remains steadfast in its commitment to combating crime, and this demolition is part of an ongoing effort.”
The demolition has commenced in areas including Panseke, Kuto, and Nwarudeen within Abeokuta South Local Government Area, signaling the government’s resolve to maintain law and order across the state.
