The Osun Joint Campus Committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has warned of impending street protests if Governor Ademola Adeleke fails to address student welfare issues in the state. Ogungbe Taiwo, speaking on behalf of the group, expressed concern over the recent indiscriminate hike in school fees at state-owned institutions and the inadequate facilities, including poor road networks, across campuses.
Taiwo highlighted the significant impact of the country’s hardships on students, exacerbated by the absence of welfare measures such as mobility aids and scholarships. The group demands the immediate reversal of the fee increments, emphasizing the students’ plight amidst prevailing economic challenges.

Expressing disappointment with Governor Adeleke’s administration, Taiwo criticized the neglect of student welfare and urged prioritization of student concerns. The group reiterated its call for improved infrastructure and palliative measures to enhance the learning environment, citing dilapidated roads and substandard lecture halls.
Despite previous appeals to government authorities, the lack of response has led to a seven-day ultimatum for action. Failure to address the demands within the stipulated time will lead to peaceful protests and roadblocks in Osogbo, the state capital.
These grievances, endorsed by student union presidents across Osun State, reflect the collective voice of Nigerian students. The group urges the government to prioritize student welfare and rights in its policies and actions.
