Nigeria Police Arrest Five After Collecting N10 Million Ransom From Four Kidnapped Victims In Enugu

Five alleged kidnappers and car snatchers have been apprehended by Enugu State Police Command personnel after they collected ransom from four kidnapped victims in the state.

The suspects are: Mazi Chukwuebuka, 29, of Lokpaukwu in Umunneochi L.G.A. of Abia State; Patrick Tochukwu Onwurah, 37, of Umunze in Urumba South L.G.A. of Anambra State (he is the coordinator and receiver of all the snatched vehicles); Egbo Michael, 32, of Umuedeachi-Amechi in Enugu South L.G.A. (he is a mechanic and specializes in deactivating tracking devices installed in snatched vehicles);

Nwadi Obinna, age 43, of Lokpanta Ezemekwu in Umunneochi L.G.A. of Abia State (specialist in altering the engine numbers of hijacked vehicles), and Ndubuisi Akanonu, age 48, of Ezinachi in Okigwe L.G.A. of Imo State (receiver of a snatched vehicle).

Kanayo Uzuegbu, the state commissioner of police, who presented the suspects to the media, claimed that the suspects and their gang members had committed multiple kidnappings, armed robberies, and car snatchings throughout the Enugu city.

According to the CP, the suspects were apprehended in January in various areas in the states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu, and Imo for plotting to commit multiple kidnappings, armed robberies, and car snatchings with other people who were at large.

He said that the ongoing investigations had shown that the suspects had acquired roughly N10,000,000.00 in ransom from four victims who had been kidnapped; during that time, their vehicles had also been stolen and sold.

Uzuegbu revealed that exhibits recovered from them thus far included a black Toyota Camry (Spider), a red Toyota Venza, an ash-colored Toyota Corolla, and a 2.4-model ash-colored Toyota Camry. However, he noted that a more covert investigation was still on.

He stated that after the investigations are over, the suspects will be charged in court.
