New Appointment at World Bank to Drive Nigeria’s Economic Growth

The World Bank has announced the appointment of Dr. Ndiamé Diop as the new Country Director for Nigeria. Dr. Diop takes over from Shubham Chaudhuri, who recently completed his term.

 

Dr. Diop’s prior role was as the World Bank Country Director for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand, where he was stationed in Manila. His tenure saw a significant increase in the Bank’s financial support to the Philippines, emphasizing economic reforms and addressing sectoral disparities in areas such as nutrition, healthcare, education, agriculture, and digital connectivity.

 

Expressing his enthusiasm, Dr. Diop remarked, “I am eager to lead the World Bank’s initiatives in Nigeria, especially during this pivotal period. Nigeria has vast potential to enhance its economy and achieve substantial development milestones for its people. I aim to strengthen our collaboration with the Nigerian government at both federal and state levels, ensuring robust technical and financial support to accelerate the country’s development goals.”

In his new role, Dr. Diop will lead the World Bank’s efforts in Nigeria, enhancing policy dialogue and fostering strong partnerships with government entities and stakeholders. He will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of both lending and non-lending programs to support Nigeria’s economic development.
