The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, officially took charge of the Abia State Command on Wednesday, committing to the restoration of peace and security across the region. His leadership aims to promote a safer environment and calls on police officers to uphold their duties with integrity and professionalism.
Danladi Isa, who becomes the 34th Commissioner of Police in Abia, succeeds Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and posted to Police Zone 15 in Maiduguri.
Speaking about his mission, Isa stated, “I have come to Abia with a clear mandate: to restore peace and security. My goal is to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, community leaders, and the public, to create a stable and secure environment where law and order prevail.”
Isa highlighted the importance of **intelligence-led policing** in his strategy, emphasizing that this modern approach would enable the police force to preempt criminal activities. He explained, “By gathering, analyzing, and acting on crucial intelligence, we can proactively prevent crimes before they occur, making us more effective in combating the evolving nature of crime.”
Community partnership will also be a cornerstone of Isa’s leadership. He stressed that the police can only succeed with the cooperation of the people. “I believe in the power of community policing. We must work hand-in-hand with the public, encouraging them to share information and be part of our mission to secure our neighborhoods,” he noted. “Together, we can build a safer Abia State for everyone.”

The new Commissioner of Police also emphasized the need for professionalism, fairness, and transparency in all police operations. He instructed his officers to treat all citizens with respect, ensuring justice is served impartially, regardless of their social or economic standing.
“We will focus on building trust between the police and the community by being open and transparent in our actions,” Isa added. “Our officers will be approachable and accessible, creating a stronger bond with the residents of Abia State.”
As part of his proactive approach, Isa announced plans to enhance visibility policing across the state, with officers being strategically deployed to deter criminal activities. “A strong police presence will be felt throughout Abia, making sure that our communities are safe and secure,” he stated.
Outgoing Commissioner Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, who now holds the rank of AIG, reflected on his tenure, saying, “I came in as CP and now leave as AIG. I trust that Isa will also leave a legacy of progress in the command.”
Onwuemelie thanked Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his support in the fight against crime and urged officers to work together to ensure that Isa’s tenure is marked by positive change and continued improvement.
