The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in its ongoing battle against drug trafficking, with recent operations leading to multiple arrests and seizures across Nigeria.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, NDLEA officers apprehended a 48-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Orjinze, bound for Paris, France. Orjinze, who allegedly posed as a professional footballer, was found to have ingested 111 wraps of cocaine. Following days of observation, he excreted the drugs, totaling 1.603 kilograms. Orjinze claimed involvement in the maritime sector and expressed aspirations to join a European football club.
Simultaneously, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate, resulting in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of 8kg of methamphetamine and 7.60kg of Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain from South Africa.
Further operations revealed a drug trafficking syndicate at the airport, with an official caught carrying illicit substances in their backpack. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of additional members of the syndicate.
In another case, freight agent Sonubi Abiodun was apprehended for attempting to export eight parcels of cocaine concealed in paint buckets to the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives cracked down on suspects producing and distributing skuchies, a psychoactive substance mixed with black currant, in Lagos.
Additional arrests were made across different states, including Cross River, Edo, and Katsina, with significant quantities of cannabis seized. Notable among the apprehensions was that of Zekere Sufianu, a physically challenged drug dealer found in possession of Loud, tramadol, and other illicit substances in Auchi town, Edo State.
