Bassey recently petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urging an investigation and prosecution of individuals who falsely implicated him in paternity claims concerning Mercy Chinwo’s child.

In the petition, Bassey’s lawyers underscored the serious repercussions of such defamatory statements, emphasizing the detrimental impact on both personal and professional spheres. They highlighted the potential damage to Bassey’s career as a respected gospel music minister and the broader implications for his international reputation.
