The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sounded an urgent warning about the circulation of unregistered Foula condoms in Nigeria. This discovery was made in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, and Zango, Katsina State, according to findings by NAFDAC’s Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate.
NAFDAC stated that the Foula brand, packaged in sets of three, is not registered for use in Nigeria, with labels that are not in English. Highlighting the critical role of quality control, NAFDAC stressed that condoms serve as a dual-purpose protective measure—preventing unintended pregnancies and providing a barrier against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Unauthorized products like Foula condoms could increase risks if they fail due to leaks or breaks. The agency has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to remove these unregistered items from circulation and cautioned Nigerians to obtain medical products only from licensed suppliers, carefully verifying product authenticity and condition.
