According to Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, the birth rate in the state has risen in less than two years, from 200 to 1,600 a month.
He credited the growth to the significant health-related investments his administration had made, such as the introduction of free prenatal and infant delivery services.
Speaking at Sir Emeka Offor’s 65th birthday celebration at Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government, the governor stated that non-indigenous people made up 52% of the recipients of free prenatal care.

He said: “We have made a lot of progress in health care. When I assumed office, the state was recording birth rate of 200 monthly, but now, it has increased to 1,600 with zero mortality. “This is because of the free ante-natal and child delivery we have instituted”.
“Out of these beneficiaries, 48 per cent are Anambra indigenes, while the rest are from outside the state.”
