In response to recent economic reforms impacting businesses, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment has mandated applicants of the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme to provide their National Identification Numbers (NINs) as part of the application process. This step aims to facilitate the disbursement of N200bn earmarked to support manufacturers and businesses nationwide.
The directive, communicated by Trade Minister Doris Aniete, requires applicants to link their NINs with their bank accounts, following regulations from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Applicants will receive SMS notifications from ‘FGGRANTLOAN’ with instructions to submit their NINs via a secure link. Only verified applicants will proceed, ensuring NINs match the applicant’s name.
President Bola Tinubu announced the grant in August 2023, aiming to bolster the manufacturing sector and create job opportunities. Despite promises, the programme has faced delays, drawing criticism from stakeholders like Femi Egbesola, President of the Association of Small Business Owners, who lamented the lack of communication regarding the disbursement process.
