A devastating fire swept through Kara Quarters Market along Atani Road in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, late Sunday night, destroying an unspecified amount of goods and properties.
The exact cause of the blaze remains unknown at this time. However, initial reports from witnesses suggest a power surge might be to blame.
The fire, which ignited around 11:05 p.m., was brought under control after several hours of effort by the state fire service team. Their quick intervention prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby church and factory.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the fire began in one shop before rapidly spreading. “Thick smoke started coming out from one of the shops and soon after, it turned into a fire. We think it’s due to a power surge, as it happened right after the power came back on,” said an onlooker.
