Monday Ikeagwu, 35, was placed under detention at a correctional facility on Friday by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, for reportedly threatening to kill his mother.
Ikeagwu was accused by the police of stealing N625,000 from his mother Jacinta and threatening her life.
Ikeagwu made his case for lack of jurisdiction, but the magistrate, Lillian Ogodo, rejected it.
Ogodo advised sending the case file and any supporting documentation to the Department of Public Prosecution in order to obtain legal counsel.
She postponed the discussion until March 29.
Ikeagwu committed the offense on February 7 at the Obodoma Ekka community in the Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Inspector Chinagorom Eze, who earlier testified in court.

Ikeagwu, according to Eze, threatened to shoot his mother.
He added that the accused took ₦625,000 in cash that belonged to his mother.
He said that Ikeagwu had broken the laws of the 2009 Ebonyi State of Nigeria, namely Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1.
Solomon Eguji, the defense attorney, asked the judge to give his client bail.
But Eze disagreed with the bail request.
“If bail is granted, he may disappear. I pray the court to discountenance the bail application, ” he advised.
