Authorities have taken into custody a man accused of fatally assaulting his wife in the Agege area of Lagos, Ondo. The victim, identified as Patience Johnson, aged 40, tragically succumbed to her injuries at the Orile-Agege General Hospital, two days after being rushed there for medical attention.
According to reports, the victim’s son, Destiny, received a distressing call around 1:40 a.m. on March 26, 2024, informing him that his mother’s husband, Emmanuel Okpara, had allegedly subjected her to severe physical violence. Upon reaching the scene, Destiny found his mother in critical condition, with visible wounds and signs of internal bleeding.
Prompt action was taken as Destiny promptly alerted the local authorities at the Elere division, leading to the swift arrest of the suspect by the police. The victim was immediately transported to the Orile-Agege General Hospital for urgent medical care, where despite efforts, she tragically passed away on March 28, 2024.

Confirming the incident, Benjamin Hudenyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, stated: “The suspect was apprehended following the report received on March 26, 2024. The victim’s demise was confirmed by medical personnel at the hospital, prompting further investigation into the matter.”
The deceased’s body has been transferred to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary, Yaba, for an autopsy, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are ongoing.
